Automatic Electric’s Telephone Topics
Ephemera, Telephone History July 17th. 2008, 6:20am
From the October issue of Telephone Engineer comes these ads for Automatic Electric. I don’t know much about the trade journal, but it’s interesting that the cover calls it “Fortnightly Telephone Engineer”. Whew! Today, the word fortnightly would certainly have people scrambling for their dictionaries.
Automatic Electric has the last several pages of the magazine, a section they call Telephone Topics. It includes various articles and ads, and I suspect that it was a regular feature in the publication. As with other trade journals from the time, much emphasis is placed on recognizing the 50th anniversary of the United States Independent Telephone Association. As did Kellogg in their advertisements, A.E. showcased their own history while praising the USITA for theirs. They had plenty of history to crow about, but only hit the high points, from the first Strowger dial telephones to the current AE 40 Monophone. Another ad, at left, promotes the versatility of the Automatic Electric models, in particular their easy conversion from local to central battery use. That’s all folks! See ya later, with more of the swell stuff you want to see.
