Update...
Removed and cleaned dial, it purrs like a kitten!
Poplar1, you are right, the plungers are short, and tabs are short, sorry, forgot that pic.
The dial is 6A 53.
The cover just has H1 on inside.
There is something about this handset...an F1? seems popular.
Not my favorite, functionally, fine, but can't shoulder it. and it swims around on the cradle.
I would like to trade this for the other type.
Which I know nuthin about, but they look cool!
Next, I gotta do these cables...both of them.
They are both 3 wire, and both shot.
This girl has a straight handset cord, but I think I want a coil cord on this phone.
And a black cloth covered modular line cord.
Threw in what I had for cradle pics
Now, on to these cords... 8)

I would not repaint the shell,  It is a 37 302 and that might hurt the value.   I would swap out the dial for a 5H from the same time period.  Is that a seamless F-1? If so  I would keep that as well

In order to use that type handset in a hands free fashion, they would use these rests with them.

I remember those always hated tryin to use someone's phone that had that on it.
My handset is seem less, I believe.

Nice find. I love the early 302's. All you need is a correct dated dial & handset to get it back to original. I restored one not long ago, took a while to locate the right parts but it was worth it. The only parts on mine not original are the cords. there is a topic on mine here:

I realized my picture is a little dark but I found a good picture Matt took of a 302 with the E handset, attached.
