Title: AE LPB-89-55 Bought at Phone Show
Post by: Fabius on April 06, 2018, 10:27:47 PM
Attended the telephone show in Shipshewana Indiana. Found a beige AE 3 slot LPB-89-55 payphone. It is in excellent condition and doesn't seem to have been messed with. It came with upper housing key and coin box door keys. For $125 I thought it was a good deal.

I think it is missing the coin relay cover. It does not have  a coin box. Are the WE and AE coin boxes the same? How can the AE box be identified?

Nice find. LPB-89-55 denotes a "Local Prepay" type with a self-compensating network and two-nickel control. The inside of the phone looks unmolested, but the -89 types need a special external ringer box containing a neon tube to be complete and functional.

AE and WE three-slot coin boxes should interchange without a problem.
