How bizarre. I recognise the colourway, and the text font logo but have never seen such a thing.
Am guessing the giant handset moves down onto a giant phone which could be seen from a rear view.

Where was this? And why?

My guess would be that these trucks were parked at various event venues where public payphones were in short supply to provide a profit-making service to people who wanted to make phone calls.

The Roadphone was used as BT publicity at outdoor events such as county shows. It also housed several payphones for public use. It's possibly the largest telephone handset in Britain.

"A working phone"! Really? It would be tough to hold that handset or I guess you could lay it down and walk from end to end to listen or speak.
