About 25 years ago I aquired this Rochester aluminum sign. We all know that they used the 08 logo well past 1921.  I was told by a very reliable source, from that area, that a few of these aluminum signs were indeed used. Has anyone heard this or have knowledge of that? Of course it is of the modern era. Still, all these years I have considered this a "knockoff" but have never really researched it. Any thoughts or knowledge?

I saw one for sale recently and asked the seller some questions.  Apparently these were made in the 1960s-70s as retirement gifts for long time Rochester Telephone Corporation employees by the telco's management.

Certainly sounds reasonable. As you know they are very well made with blue over white heavy
"shelving".
Thanks for the info.

Ell:

I have a Rochester sign, with the same design as shown in your picture. Heavy sign and heavy shelving. And, it is made from steel. I just tested it with a magnet. Real or repro?

Hi Chuck...
Those are real. Not as old as the logo implies but original.

On the aluminum version they use a more modern typeface than the original version
