Hello,

as I consider you an expert in telephone signs, may I ask you a question?
I don't know if you seen my post about my new Gray Western 150G, but I want a time matching sign, one of those smaller round ones. What would you think is the correct sign for a 1931, New York City located payphone?

Thank you and best wishes from Germany,

Haf

Hello Haf,

Danke für die netten Worte. Willkommen und Gruß aus den USA.

Below find three New York Telephone signs that would be correct for the early 1930s. This Bell logo was used from 1921 until it was replaced in 1939. The first picture is the round one you mention. The second is a flange sign and the third is big. The fourth would go on a booth. There are a few more from that time period but not pictured.

Tom,

thank you for your replay. I think the last one, telephone booth sign, would be appropriate to hang over my phone. Even if it's not in a booth it's hung in the correct hight for telefon booths with seat. Now I will have my eyes open to get a sign like this :)

On that picture, do I see that correct that just above the sidewalk there are two of the round signs of your first picture? One seems to be already missing (collecting signs is obviously not only a modern hobby)

I'd love to have that scale and Exlax thermometer on the far left.

I'd settle for the nickel coffee!
