The hardest colors to find are:

Oxford Gray
Mahogany Brown
Rose Beige
Mediterranean Blue

Gray started in 1953 and discontinued in 1957.
Brown started in 1954 and discontinued in 1957, but continued to show in commercial phones (keysets).
Rose Beige and Blue originated in 1954 and were discontinued in 1957.

Because of the fact they were made for a few years, makes them difficult to find. However, yellow sets in soft plastic (Tenite) are also very rare.

Yellow is a very common color, but 99.9% of them are hard plastic.  It's only the soft plastic yellows that are rare.

Transparent (clear) 500's are hard to find. Soft clears are really hard to find.
