Hi, I'm new to the forum and hoping someone can help me date a couple of phones I recently acquired. One has a Stromberg Carlson tag on it, but I'm wondering what the button on the top of the phone was for, push to talk?  Also wondering what year it may be from.  The second phone has a head with the dial that rotates. I can see a spot on the front that looks like it had the same Stromberg Carlson tag on it, and it has the same hook as the small phone, but the receiver says western electric.  Hoping someone can verify the manufacturer and also give me a date for it.  I've included a few pics.  Thanks in advance.

These are SC telephones. The push button set was most likely used as an intercom set and the button was to buzz the other set.The dial set appears to have an AE dial instead of a SC dial.Smaller independant telephone companies would repair telephone sets with what parts they had.I think the SC dials were not as good as AE ones. These sets are most likely 1950s or so.The WE handset could be replaced with a SC one.

Thank you so much for the reply and info.  I probably will replace the handset as soon as I find one.  Had no idea about the dial though, thanks again

You can learn more about the set and others in the SC lineup by consulting documents in the TCI Library.

Here's a search that will get you started:

There's also a section with SC-related documents here:
