Tape glue became 1 with finish on my D1 Help???

At some point, somebody put tape across the front of my D1
After who knows what happened next, it became one with the finish.
I also think it was the source of the corrosion on the finger wheel.
I tried cleaning, and some polish, and it generally looks better.
The tape stuff, however, is hard as a rock, and I am not sure how to go about that.
Any educated ideas, Hypo's, experiences, best guess, examples, shot in the dark,
A blind throw of a dart, A quick call to uncle Joe, A web sight link, An app,
Or any other Thoughts, or opinions, would be good fodder for the sight anyway.
So lets see how far we can take this!
How might I,  Fix this tape issue? "Short of buyin another D1"

I use Vegetable Oil from the kitchen. Apply to a piece of kitchen towel or cloth and rub. The goo softens and comes away easily. Works every time.

WD 40 works well on removing tape residue. Then there is Goo-Gone, also works well but strong solvent.

Any oil base home product  will probably work,  including butter.
For me: I would try a citrus based adhesive remover because  they  work very well .

Provided it can be confirmed that the original material is Bakelite, it is also safe to use paint stripper as a last resort.
