Anyone know what this was used for?:

Obviously not Bell System
Nickel-plate makes it seem pre-war
The two other examples of 316W transmitters I have found all have the same bracket.

I don't know what else it was used for, but a few years ago, I bought a small Western Electric 1327 Oak Interphone box - I'd have to look at it to get its number, but it is over in the museum on a shelf.

Well turned out, someone had stolen the transmitter, and put an receiver in its place on the face of the box, but the original was supposed to be a 316W transmitter, I was told. (upon further checking, it is really a 294W transmitter needed to keep it original) It remains on a shelf in the museum office because of this, but someday, I will replace the transmitter and put it on display. Sadly, I didn't notice it wasn't original until it landed here.

So, that may give you one idea of one of the way they were used...

Thanks.  LMK if you want it,  I'll trade it for a comparable standard WE candlestick transmitter (*229*, 229W, 250W, *329*, etc).
