If I outbid anyone here, erm, sorry!!! :D

Anyway, found this the other day, it stood out in my eye because of the fingerwheel, it is the older style and matches the rest of the phone too (though is most likely plastic as I don't believe they made that style out of metal), which you have to use a small screwdriver to pop the dial centre off to access the dial card and screw to remove the fingerwheel, so has to be an early 60's model, if not, oh well!! :D

Not too bad at a total of £20.95, though I shouldn't really have bought it cos I cant' really afford it at the moment, but again, oh well!! It's a shot in the dark buy, I no nothing more than what I see in the picture, though I do see that there's no line cable, so will have to remedy that at some point... :)

And speaking of pictures, well, a lone picture, here it is for prosperity...  :D

Ebay's guesstimates say in a week's time, but, we shall see, ebay's predictions don't always hold true... :D

Nice ;D
I love getting a phone like that and transforming it into a shiny, working appliance!
I posted a while back about a SC 1543 I picked up that looked pretty bad, check it out here:

It's actually the fact that it's a mess that made me buy it, it's nice buying phones that require little work, but making a phone that's a mess into something that looks and works great, that produces a nice amount of satisfaction... ;D

Yes, I love that too. And actually, I find that dirt is not even a phones worst nightmare. It often seems to protect plastics, especially bakelite.

The only issue with dirt is if the phone (or any item really) is stored somewhere that it gets scraped and scratched, the dirt can act like sandpaper and cause scratches and scuffs, but that's only if it's badly stored... :)

I have dealt with worse basket cases than this 2CV, a bit of elbow grease will work wonders
"now this should take five minutes, where's me screwdriver went now..?"

twocvbloke

In theory it should be an easy clean up and service, in theory... :D

I just noticed something, the chevron plate on the dial, there's no chevrons, it's just black behind the fingerwheel, either that's a dirty plate or that's an entirely black plate... ???

gpo706

It's a blank plate 2CV, my red GEC made one came with it, and curiously thicker handset cord, the GEC cord makes the GPO one look positively emaciated!

Congrats twocvbloke :D.. Nice project..

Thanks, should be a simple cleanup, assuming it hasn't been underwater or something... :D

Hmm, I wonder if it's a GEC model then... :D

The handset cables on my green Mk1 746 and my Manual 706 are somewhat thicker than the rest of my phones, thought they're both by Plessey (746 by Plessey of Speke (SPK), the 706 by Plessey in Ilford (PL)) rather than GEC... :D

Yes twocvbloke.. I hope that hasn't been underwater .. oufff

I had one of those. It had either been in a very damp environment for a long time or it had been in a couple of cm of water for a while. Very rusty, mold, fungus, etc. It worked very erratically. Tried to coerce it back to life, just to see if I could.

As it was a common Phone here (Heemaf 55) I didn't bother restoring it to a proper working and presentable condition. Too much work. Plenty of good working insides to swap it for.

I think some phones can survive a dunking in water, so long as the design is forgiving (and depends on how nasty the water is too chemically), but it seems the 706 can survive being wet, "Mr. Red" here seems to have survived it seems:
