Which way does the transmitter cup sit in a G type handset. When I take them out to clean up the handset, I can't remember how to put it back. You think after playing with old phones for many years I would know better as to how they go back in. ::)
The U-shaped part that traps the strain relief of the handset cord goes down near the bottom of the handset, where the hole is. Also the strain relief, if it's the stubby kind, only sticks out about half an inch. Not one or two inches.
There's a later type, a 1960s type of strain relief, that tapers at the end and that one sticks out more. Look at old ads if you want to see the correct placement of the cord in the handset.
On modular handsets, the modular jack for the handset cord has to meet the hole in the handset, so it's more obvious how those go.
