This telephone is a Norwegian made telephone. Modell 1953 made by Elekrisk Bureau between 1953, and 1967. The dial number plate is probably the original enameled plate with reverse numbering. This numbering is used in New Zealand and in the city of Oslo (Norway) The dial center is not original.
This telephone will in non modified version work well on US systems, but the ringer will have a load on 2-2.5 REN (Equals 2-2.5 times the ringer of an Western Electric 500 )
This phone is a combined tabletop/wall phone.
You may open it by loosing the screw in front (stop unscrewing when you feel resistance) Then lit the front up, and the rear will snap out of some tabs but contain hinged in 2 textile hings. 2 screws under the dial will make you able to loosen the dial, and turn it 180 deg for use as a tabletop phone. Mount in reverse order. Nobody really know why Oslo uses this reverse dial, so it is internationally pretty rare. If you should try it you have to dial "wrong digits" to get it right. 10-the digit tells you which digit you should dial: 1=9, 2=8, 3=7...5=5....9=1, 0=0.

The most important reason to tell about this is the saving on domestic postage. Postage from Norway would be at least $50!
As a telephone, the diagram and functions are quite equal to a W.E. 302.

Thanks for the info dsk, I have seen these, nice looking phone, but with the dial it is a bit odd to use, but makes you think when dialing.
I have one in a Lt. Gary, with a mesage waiting light (?). On my test bench it seem to ring OK.
This Lt. Gray one is up for at $50, if any one wants it. I may have a Black one too, but that stuff is behnd more stuff.

The dial center is held by a snap ring. The finger wheel can removed after the dial center is removed.

This telephone was almost everywhere when I grew up, the last with real ringer, and carbon transmitter.
