Why did this dark blue AE 80 sell for $1136?!

Also, why are the high bids not in order?

Does seem a little high. Color AE's always go for higher money but that seems like a lot. Also IIRC the buyer is one of the deep pocket phone collectors. Sometimes 2 deep pocket buyers decide they want a particular phone at any price and this is the result.

It is the hardest to find AE 80 colour but Yeah that's up there! Harder to find an AE 90 wall phone in that colour though.

I have heard of 3 Blue  AE 90's over the years. I would of been surprised if a Blue AE90 sold this high tho.

That's the only colour I am missing (in a 90) in my AE 80/90 collection. Would sure love to find a Colonial Blue 90 one day but wouldn't pay anywhere near that amount! Collection will have to go without. Glad I have my blue 80....given to me by a great friend.

Why are the AE colors apparently more rare than WE colors?  Is this mainly due to the massive volume of WE production for the Bell System or are there other factors?

I always thought AE's never got THAT kind of attention on eBay or...anywhere..I've got an Aqua Blue 80 that belonged to my great grandfather, and I cherish it, dearly. Bedside phone at the moment here in the room....

I know the color 40's and 50's bring BIG BIG bucks, but not as big as this colonial Blue 80 - that is just....wild..

When you search "vintage phone" on eBay you rarely find a decent 80. Usually junkers here in the Eastern side of the game.
