Title: Russian Telephone set TAN-5 of the USSR (ТАН-5)
Post by: Sergey Paganini on April 17, 2022, 04:03:44 PM
Hi all! So, I decided to introduce you to a fairly massive telephone set of the USSR in the late 40s and 60s. The phone is called in Russian TAN-5 and translates as Telephone Apparatus Desktop -5 in Russian letters (ТАН-5)
TAN-5 was invented and developed in the design bureau of the Leningrad plant "Krasnaya Zarya" in English - "red sunrise". in 1946. And it was produced from 1946 to 1951 at the Krasnaya Zarya factory. In 1951-1952, production was transferred to a telephone factory in the city of Perm, and for one year the devices were produced at these two factories simultaneously.
After 1952 and until the end of the production of the model in 1969, the TAN-5 and its subsequent modifications TAN-6, TAN-6 MP were produced only at the Perm plant. The TAN-5 phone model differs from the TAN-6 by the presence of a dialer for working with the PBX. Telephone TAN-6 - without a dialer (with a plug) to work in local communication (manual switches). In 1949, the telephone was modernized and improved, and it received additional letters in the name TAN-5 MP and TAN-6 MP (in Russian letters ТАН-5 МП). MP translates as Modernized Parallel.
The Perm factory made a very large number of these telephones during these 18 years of their production.Unfortunately, in the USSR there were no statistics on the release of phones in the public domain. This is due to the fact that the country itself was closed to information and the fact that all the factories that produced these telephones were defense. and they mainly made products for the needs of the army. All that I managed to find by the number of phones produced is information from the local newspaper of the Perm factory, where it is written that on April 21, 1958, the factory made 1,000,000 phones. If you calculate by years, then about 150,000 pieces were made per year. and in 18 years they made about 2,700,000-3,000,000 phones.
(almost all the old devices on sale now are Perm with the Handset logo on the Star). The logo of the Krasnaya Zarya factory is the letters KZ. These telephones with the KZ logo, which were produced for about 5 years, according to my observations, are 1/10 of the Perm ones.In addition to these two factories, in 1948 and 1949 the TAN-5 telephone set was produced by another little-known factory with a logo - the letters ZTK in a rhombus. There is no information about this plant on the Internet, but with a high degree of probability I assume that the phones were produced in the city of Tula. at the Tula factory named after Kirov. Now it is the Tula cartridge factory. Very few telephones with the ZTK logo (translated as the Tulsky Kirov Factory) have survived. I think 1 percent of all available similar telephones. Even local hobbyists and collectors of telephones did not know about it. My merit is that I got such a phone and I made inquiries and found information about it.All these telephone sets are the same in all factories in appearance and internal details. They differ only in the logos of the manufacturing plants on the phone case, and sometimes the logos were also put on the handsets. Here I am attaching a photo of the phone of the Krasnaya Zarya factory in English - (red sunrise) with the "KZ" logo in Russian letters "КЗ"
