I've always liked that type thermometer.  Growing up, there were always several in one drawer or another, from Christmases past.  When I wanted to find one to use at home, the only older ones were priced out of sight.  I had to buy new ones.  They are just as accurate as the online weather sites.  Just miss the old advertising.

They gave the cable give-aways ( thermometers, paperweights, ect.) to people who had cables buried on their property. It was a way of reminding them to check before they dig. More permanent than a calendar.
