I have three W.E. D1 telephones which as of yet I have not managed to find the time to tidy up.
A recent thread http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?&topic=23801
prompted me to take a closer look to see which, if any, might be an earlier D1 with the patent dates to the rear.

Photos below for comparison.

The first I had purchased with the intention of stripping, but on arrival the paintwork was better than the photos showed it to be, so I didn't have the heart to remove it. This D1 has the patent date to rear.

The second also has the patent date, and a seamless E1 handset.

The third has no patent date to rear, but does have an earlier seamless E1 handset.
