I have a capacitor from 1937, and it is not working, I want to replace it with another but I cant get the right look so here is how to rebuild an old capacitor.

The Capacitor was defect, but how to get a new one looking right?

Carefully bend up the 2 flaps in the end.

Heat it up so vax and tar is softend, but not liquid.

( used boiling water in the tin, and after 5 minuts the temp had fallen, but it was possible to get apart)

Not easy to get out but I could be rought so a screw was used.

most of whats there was pulled out.

The new capacitor was soldered in, and the emty space filled ip with paper. squeeze together and carfully bend back the flaps.

Do not clean the end to well, it looks more original with the old tar and vax spots. :-)
