When you push the record in, it's sliding across the platter.  You push the record all the way back until it hits a stop at the back, inside the machine.  Scratches were avoided by having the platter heavily flocked.  Closing the door does two things:  cause a locating pin to rise from the center of the platter to engage the record's center hole, and lower the tonearm.

I guess GG, Kenny & Dennis will be the only ones who "caught" the "Serious typo"! Looks like Dennis "fixed" it this morning?

I sort of thought that I was the Official TYPO'ist on the forum?
