Canadian Coin Question.

I know that the loon (diver in the UK) has been on the Canadian dollar coin for a while. But I just noticed it being refereed to as "Lucky Loonie". What's the story on that name?

This is how the term originated :   
                                                       A tradition was born. In what is now a legendary tale, a Loonie was embedded at center ice prior to the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City to bring luck to Canada's men's and women's hockey teams. Both brought home gold.

I think the person in charge of the ice at SLC Olympics was a Canadian? So they sort of snuck it into the ice.

We don't normally refer to the Loonie as a Lucky Loonie, just in that story.

Ha! As I was reading the information I thought OMG! Did they embed a real loon in the ice or was it already dead. Then being the intellectual giant that I am I realized you were taking about the coin. Thanks for the information.
