Can anyone identify this ringer box that sold today on Ebay? Seller said it did not have a model or type number stamped outside or inside. The hinges have an 1878 patent date, indicating the box was made no later than 1895 (?).

It doesn't have a switch hook, but it could have been used as a subset with a desk stand (candlestick).

Richard Mountjoy's book shows similar ones used with early candlesticks, although I think this looks like it may pre-date the introduction of the candlestick.  I have a similar top box from a 3-boxer that has no model number, just patent dates.
