Is a DSL filter needed with a 302/354?

I have DSL in my house, and extensions running everwhichaway. There are DSL filters on the extensions in the kitchen, the office, and the back bedroom. It was an OOSOOM kind of thing until I plugged up a 500 in the front bedroom today and noticed DSL noise. Then I realized that there was no filter on that extension, but I'd been using a 302 in there previously without a problem, and also realized that the 354 in the hallway wasn't filtered either. So I started experimenting.

Long story short, all my 101*-equipped phones either have very little or no DSL noise at all when not filtered, but all of my 42**-equipped phones are disturbingly noisy on unfiltered extensions. Do I even need a filter on the older sets?

On a side note, my 5302 gets lots of sidetone regardless of where it's connected, thanks to its T1/U1 setup, and the phone in the back room beeps a little when I dial out on the 354.)

You need a DSL filter on all phones.  Due to better accoustics and frequency response, you can hear the DSL noise through the 500 better than you can on the older phones.  If you had a younger person (I'm not saying your hearing is bad) that person would probably be able to hear the DSL noise through all your phones.  I am not sure, but the filter may also keep telephone audio from effecting the DSL signal, but I have never had a discussion with anyone about that.  I have only used DSL on a couple of occasions, and currently use cable for my Internet.

Younger people have more accute hearing than I do, that's for sure
