While researching 1702 10-button Princess sets for a question on the TCI Email Group, I discovered sets with base dates of 9-64 and 11-67 (extending the range in the chart).

Also, the later set's dial is a 25P4 dated 10-67.
The speculation is that the 25P-type dials were made after the non-illuminated dials, so it would be interesting to discover the earliest manufacturing date.

(The early sets I checked so far all have replaced/refurbed dials, so don't have good early dates.)

Found the attached photos to close in on the transition from 25H to 25P Princess dials.

5-67 -- 25H4
7-67 -- 25P4

Can anyone close the gap or provide early 25H photos?

Thanks for the date range updates. I had not heard of non-illuminated Princess dials other than CS sets. Is the 25H4 non-illuminated?

25P4 as shown has the holes for converting to 12-button. Note that transition from 25A3 to convertible
25W3 on 1500D set occurred by 2-67

             G1A                    6-49 10/50 - 11-64  1-66

If I'm reading that right, 1-66 is the newest WE 500 you know of with a G1 handset? I have two NOS black TA-236/FT GA-51859 phones (US Army Signal Corps version of the WE 500), both dated 6-66, and both of which came in their original boxes with US Army markings, and they both have G1 handsets with the normal G1 markings:

Western Electric
MADE IN U.S.A.
G1

And I know of an NOS one dated 7-66 that has a G1 handset too, because the guy I bought my two phones from had pictures of one.

Here are some more details about my two phones:

- The receiver cap on one of them has a date stamp on the inside of 5-66 and also says G3. There's a letter C there too, off by itself. The receiver cap on the other one also has a date stamp of 5-66 and a lone letter C, but instead of G3 it says 6G.

- Both caps on both handsets are thermoplastic (not Bakelite).

- Both baseplates are cadmium-plated.

- Both handset cords are H4CJ, and below that is stamped a "T" and a "II". On the other side of the restraint is stamped a "66".

- Both mounting cords are D3BN, and below that is stamped a "T" and a "II". On the other side of the restraint is stamped a "66".

- Both networks are 425E, dated 6-66

- Both ringers are stamped II-66, but one of them has 5 stamped dashes above the II-66 and the other only has 2.

- Both dials are 9C-3, dated 6-66.

- Both transmitters are T1, dated 6 8 66 on one of them and 5 27 66 on the other.

- Both receivers are U1, dated 6 9-66 on both of them.

- Both shells have threaded inserts and clear plastic plungers.

- Both shells are marked:

SIGNAL CORPS  U.S. ARMY
TELEPHONE SET TA-236/FT
Western Electric

- Both baseplates are marked:

GA-51859
6-66
(no other markings aside from the "<-LOUD-<" under the ringer volume control)

Quote from: RotarDad on March 22, 2019, 10:29:10 PMThat is a great question, and I think we have an answer!  I just removed the cover on a 4/55 500, and it has the 2-point mount.  Mine has 4-55 on the base and net, but the ringer and other parts, including the handset, have March dates.  I would say you nailed this Andre!  March-April 1955 was the transition month.  Perhaps Poplar1 can add this to the date range data in this thread.

Just acquired a 7-55 (base, housing, ringer, dial and network are also 7-55) type 500 and it's got a 2-point mount.
