Does anyone have any brochures or ads on the ITT Own A Phone program (see ad), phones with the sticker (see photos), or any other background info?

This was apparently ITT's answer to the Bell System Design Line series.  The ad below slings some barbs in that direction.

This topic is an offshoot from posts in the "Jewel Box" by Face Standard Italy (ITT) and Leather Covered Phones topics.

If you call the 1-800 number in the ITT own a phone ad you get directed to call another number, which is an erotic services number. ::)

So I'm guessing the program is defunct.  ;)

I've seen a Stromberg Carlson catalog for the late 70's that has phones for outright sale, they are not cheap.  With inflation factored in many of the common models come in at high prices in todays money.

I mentioned in a post a while back that I have a beige ringerless SC 500 which I bought in 1978 at Montgomery Ward on sale for about $20.  As I recall, that was a really good price at the time.

I wonder how the "security phone" in the poster works?

Thanks, Remco.

From the following source and a Google books hit, I suspect the Security Phone was basically a model with a pre-programmed dialer to call police or fire numbers with one button push.

Here's a quick photo of page 161 in "All About Telephones," TAB Books, 1983 -- showing a few of the Own A Phone sets.

Note the Jewel Box, Gondola Trimline and later version of the Security Phone.

Also note two more variations that seem to be built from the Belgian model -- one with a radio and one with an alarm clock.

Interesting thread.... when I worked in retail, the company I worked for used to sell the "Citation" series and the big button phone... too bad these aren't still around....

I see ITT had a go at selling the Trimphone across the pond, sold under their renamed branding of DeltaPhone, I wonder if they kept the tritium tubes or not...;D

I first got my home phone service after the Bell breakup.  I never rented a telephone.  I have always owned my phones.  Some were those cheap touch tone phones that only last a year or two.  The best corded phones have come from Western Electric.  The best cordless phones have come from General Electric.  I had one of those cordless phones where the handset and the base both had those long antennas.  A neighbor remarked the handset looked like a two way radio!  It was still working when it got sold at a farm auction a few years ago.  I'd probably used it for 19 years.  The battery had been replaced just once in that time.

They are still around, they come up on eBay from time to time. Some here have them in their collections also.

I did see a Deltaphone listed on Etsy a few months ago. I believe they had alphanumeric dials instead of the plain numeric dials.

So funny to see those Indetel phones (lower left of first image) . I saw one on ebay and could not belive ITT sold them , It had the own a phone sticker on bottom, and it had the racing sripes like the one in the image .

I see a lot of those in Mexico , where I now live They are a dime a dozen. They are what Telmex used when they got away from the Ericcsson sets

They made push button models that were pulse dial push button as Telmex took for ever to move to DTMF . In fact I have one here and waiting on some Stromberg Carlson DTMF pads that I think I can even use the existing white keypad on. Posting a thread about this elsewhere.
