New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Listed about one day ago in a 10 day auction with no reserve ( with a thanks to Fabius for the link ) and starting at $9.99 is what appears to be a desirable Stromberg Carlson candlestick in fairly good condition considering its age. The seller has posted good images but no inside shots. After one day, the phone has attracted 17 bids from 7 bidders raising the price to $76 so I am sure there are a few more to come. So, once again, who best knows what this candlestick will sell for when the auction ends?

NOTE: we will use a $5 gap rule between guesses again to prevent crowding. As such, keep your guess at least $5 away from prior guesses for this contest.

The seller listed it as an "Vintage Antique 1894 Stromberg Carlson Oil Can Candlestick Telephone", the item condition as "used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying simply "This is a vintage Stromberg-Carlson Oil Can Candlestick Telephone. The receiver is marked: Stromberg-Carlson Telephone MFG. Co. Rochester, NY Chicago, ILL. 770545. The back of the receiver is marked: MFD. By Stromberg-Carlson Tel. Mfg. Co. Rochester, NY, USA. The base is marked: 702410. The handset is marked: Stromberg-Carlson Tel. Mfg. Co. Rochester. Pats. June 12 - Nov, 27-94. The receiver has nickel center and bakelite parts. In overall nice condition. Does have a chip on the earpiece of the handset and the base has some paint chipping."

The prices for this style phone is all over the board - I've seen them sell from $150 to over a $1000.  Really hard to predict.  I'll go $275

The phone is up to $202 with about 3 1/2 days to go with 10 bidders.

Probably sit at $202 until snipe time, but who knows, may sell for $202 or a gazillion bucks.

Lot of members sitting on the fence with only 6 guesses in so far.

$375.00 Please.  S-C certainly had some nice metal work on their equipment.

And the winner of Auction Contest #208 is 19and41 who with the 9th entry into the contest offered the winning guess of $375.00 giving him his very 1st auction contest win. So a big congratulations goes out to 19and41 for his first win in the CRPF Auction Contests and getting on the Contest Standings list. No place to go but up from there.

The phone was won by 0***0 ( 0 ), a first time buyer with a triple zero eBay tag for this auction, with his final of several bids about 90 seconds before the auction ended to take the phone home for $365.50. The phone moved up quite well each day from it start at $9.99 to $310 over the first 5 days of the auction and then stayed there until the last hour of the auction, when it jumped up by way of several bids. There were no last second snipes. The auction saw 12 buyers placing 57 bids.

Check out the updated Contest Standings to see who's who through 208 contests and the latest additions to the CRPF Hall of Fame

Thanks again to all who played. As always, there is only one way to get on the winner's board or move up a rung - you have to play to win.
