I wasn't sure if this a technical or general question.
What handset is supposed to be on the short eared, vented 302? E1 or F1?
My phone is packed away somewhere and I think it had an E1 handset on it when I got it.
The "Find of the Month" prompted me to ask about the phone.

Three possibilities. An E1, a seamless F1 or a standard seamed F1. I have also seen an F1 with a two piece transmitter cap but never saw it on a early 37 302, so maybe four possibilities. Mine has an E1....Doug

Doug, did you see a date on the  F-1 handset on the IV36 302 shown in Find of the Month for July? I notice the transmitter is 6/36 but the receiver looks newer. (Perhaps the phone was updated later with a newer handset?)

I think the two-piece caps are only on the prototype phones. Those handsets also have a different receiver capsule.

Also, what is the correct dial for these---5H or 4H?

i seem to recall that by Dec. 1937 they had stopped making the short ears.

Mine is a 4H, but have have seen 5H with the correct matching '37 dates.

The IV36 was mine and it was as found from a large stash from a hotel the had closed and the the 302s were "upgraded" to Comdial 500 sets.

The latest 37s I have seen with the sort ears, grates. riveted feet etc were made in 8/37, but I haven't seen that many
