I believe that these were AE's attempt to compete in the disposable phone market once end-user ownership was allowed.  The only real value in these is they're good for practicing restoration techniques.  I have a white one I used for practicing retro-bright bleaching on.

If you look closely in the first few pictures of this thread, you can see a center screw that needs to be removed to free the wheel.

Thanks, I found it. There was the remains of a paper label over it. I assume this means any label just has to be stuck on the surface then? It's amazing how cheap and nasty these phones are compared to others of the era.
