Title: SA 11: American Bell Theodore Vail Replica Special Auction Contest - Ended 03-29
Post by: TelePlay on March 23, 2015, 10:26:17 PM
Another special auction contest (suggested by Fabius) just for the fun of it is an interesting item. I have no idea of its value but after 24 hours, it has picked up 5 bidders placing 5 bids pushing the $9.99 listing price to $202.50. It was listed one day ago in a 7 day auction with a reserve. That being said, who knows best what this will sell for when the auction ends. If the reserve is not met, the highest bid will be considered the current market value and the closest guesser to that value will be declared the winner.

Absolutely any and all members are very welcome and strongly encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.[/b][/color] )[/i].

The seller listed it as a "AMERICAN BELLTHEODORE VAIL LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE - HISTORICAL REPLICA, phone" with the item condition as "Used" and "Very nice condition, as purchased years ago from the maker, master craftsman John Infurna. Untested." with the auction listing description as "This Very Nice American Bell Theodore Vail Long Distance Telephone, Historical Replica, is most desirable! This is a replica of the one used by Theodore Vail of the American Bell Telephone Company in the 1880s. If you want a VERY NICE AMERICAN BELL THEODORE VAIL LONG DISTANCE TELEPHONE  -  HISTORICAL REPLICA FOR DISPLAY OR TO COMPLETE YOUR EARLY TELEPHONE COLLECTION, THIS IS IT! It was made in the last 40 years by master craftsman John Infurna. This will make an excellent addition to your collection or decor. Please see all the pictures for it's nice condition. These rarely come up for sale and most of them are in museums and telephone collections. One recently sold at auction for $1400. As mentioned in the Condition Description, it has not been tested."

Since this is a "special rules" no winner contest, the best guesser will not be included in the CRPF Auction Contest Hall of Fame or be counted in the CRPF Contest Standings as a win. This one is just for fun. However, the winner will take a place in the Special Auction Contest Standings (http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=13212.msg138775#msg138775).

As with the other special auctions, just take a guess and I'll run the list of guesses to document this eBay auction item for posterity.

All I ask is that guesses be at least $20 dollars apart, one guess per player (can't revise a guess) and no guesses will be accepted with less than 12 hours to go in the auction -- special rules for a special contest . . .  ;)

My guess is it won't break the reserve.

That may be but the guidelines are a bit different in the special auction contests so even if it does not meet reserve, the highest bid when the auction closes will be considered the current market value (obviously not agreeable to the sell so no sale).

The person whose guess is closest to that last high bid will be considered the winner, that would be the person who best guessed the current market value, the highest offer.

So, any and every guess could be the "winner."

The winner of this Special Auction Contest is Sargeguy who with the 3rd guess of the contest offered a winning guess of $800.00 to get his first win in the Special Auction Contest Standings. The item sold for $806.00 in a snipe by p***k ( 4816 ) four seconds before the auction ended to take the phone home.
