I watched this 507 go from $4.99 to $111.11 in the last second of the auction! Was there something I missed?

According to Paul Fs site, the 507 was for long loop use far away from the exchange office. What's so special about it?

Interesting... Shouldn't this phone being a 1956 have a 95a dial blank, rather than a 95b?

It's a 1959. The 95B appeared in 1956, so even if it were a '56, it would still probably have a B.

I heard that the 95b dial blank came out during the last half of 1954.  Any dial-less 500 sets dated 7-54 or later would have the 95b dial blank.  That was the way I heard it.

It's a relatively scarce variation.  It just happened that two well-known collectors both really wanted it.

The difference between it and other 500-series sets can be seen in the internal photos here:

The auction might have done even better with some good internal photos.

Did I hear right about the 95b dial blank coming out in July of 1954 or was I misinformed?

You were not misinformed, according to Paul's site, which says...

"95B Apparatus Blanks came out in 1954 to fit the various models being introduced in the 500-series."

I have one on a phone dated 12-55.
