Check out ebay item #150423698492.  I missed it by a few seconds.

Did somebody win it?  I don't see any winner's information.

$25 for an "A" mount would be the find of the year for just about any collector.  That's just unbelievable.

LarryInMichigan

It was a "Buy it now" deal.

Wallphone

Under the completed listings it shows a $25 "Best Offer".
I find that hard to believe.
They must have done some kind of side deal and they only reported $25 to avoid final value fees.
Somebody probably still got a good deal.

When I saw it, it said $25 or best offer.  It took a minute for me to grasp what was happening.  I pushed the "Buy it Now" button, and got an error message saying that it was not available because someone apparently bought it already.  Obviously, the seller has no idea what she is selling.

Given the description, I have no doubt somebody got that phone from a completely uninformed seller.  It happens sometimes.  I got a '57 500U for $35 BIN once, but this makes my bargain pale in comparison.

The one reason I think Dougpav is right on is that every other listing they run is an auction then they pull out just one Buy it Now? Could be, but I don't know.

I also agree by reading the description they didn't have a clue on it.

Netdewt

What should it have gone for?

One of our auction contests was for one of these and it went for more than $1700.

$1700 seems to be a high "real value"/ low Ebay Price. For a keeper I might pay up to $500, For resale I would go $700-800 and hope the market was good.

I think the $1,700 phone was sold by Walt (long-time collector, of the really High $ old stuff)  He  was the collector who convinced me that they are only worth about $1200 tops.

There is a list-server collector that owns 6-8 of these sets. Some collectors call him a hoarder, I call him a specialist. If he sold them on ebay he would branded a "dealer". Only if he sold them to the "whiners" for $25 BIN would they call him a collector.

Sorry for the "gripe session". I buy , sell and trade phones, I have been doing it for years. If I didn't I would be lucky to own a dozen phones, 1/2 HW and 1/2 mod.

Learn your phones, Buy the good deals and sell/trade them to collectors who appreciatte them, use the proceeds to enhance your collection. This is the proven formula for many a collector. Myself included

That's probably the single best piece of advice any new collector can be given.  Throwing money willy-nilly at anything with a handset is the quickest way to wind up with a flock of worthless, noncollectable phones.

Bingster, Thanks for the agreement.

Step 1 in the "Learn Your Phones" tutorial:

Follow the forum

Step 2 Join the free TCI listserver (and/or the ATCA Members only listserver)
Step 3 study Ebay compleated Auctions,

Step 4 Short-cut Paul F site
Step 5  Read thru the sites on the telephone collecting ring

Step 6 ask lots of questions from other collectors and the listservers.

These steps can be compleated in any order.

Another bit of advice is talk to strangers

E-mail the "big" Names your telephone queastions. They will probably reply.

Make some "collector" cards ie: I buy telephones. Create hats/shirts with telephone collecting themes,
Make bulliten board ads regarding telephones, Post buy-it ads in the local classifieds, Get to know the antique/junk dealers in your area.
Visit these folks monthly and remind them that you are interested in phones.

Sell any cool clear phones to Jim S. (cheap) { that one slipped in there by accident, I leave it as an example of self-promotion)}

I could not agree more Jim, this is where I get nearly all of my phone money. I will buy anything if the price is right and clean it up, sell it and convert it into a phone I need... I mean want  :)

Most of the recipes are right here too, don't sleep on those junkers folks  8)

If they really paid $25 for it they got a bargain. I'm cursing myself for not buying that. The phone itself is not that interesting to me, but I could trade that for a truckful of 500's or some of those 50a1 conference phones. I guess I just gotta pay more attention.  ;D ;D
