Various Varisters

There seems to be two types of varisters on the receivers of the WE 500 phones.  I have pictures to illustrate what I am talking about.  The dates on the receivers don't seem to make a difference as to which type is used.

If the old copper oxide? varistor went bad on a WE rec   but the rec capsule was good, it would have the newer green or violet one soldered in .AE made a bad decision on the earlier type 810 rec capsules and a shorted varistor could not be replaced.Later capsules had the varistor moved outside

It appears that the receiver with the green varistor has been recoded U-3, while the other one retains the original varistor.

After a certain date, all U-1s that were reissued from the WE Service Centers were converted to U-3s, but the original manufacture dates were left on.
