It would be interesting to see when Western Electric started using chromium as a finish.  This is the first example I have seen that mentions chrome on Western Electric telephone.  The 1939 "From the Far Corners of the Earth" only mentions chromium being used in magnets.  There is a paragraph in the nickel section that says "Many of your household electrical appliances also are plated with nickel to beautify them, and in some case a thin plate of chromium is applied on top of the nickel to obtain a higher lustre-this is the finish that is so widely employed on automobile trim." so it would be some time after 1939 and before 1953.
