WOW !   this phone is really taking off..... bids now up to $572 and there is stilll several hours to go...
I bet this auction could run WAAAAAY UP THERE !

When is the last time a dark Gray WE 500 came up for sale ? and what did it go for ?

As some members may know, I'm English and am amazed at what these old American 'phones fetch on e-Bay.

It may make you jealous to search for "Vintage Telephone" on eBay.Co.UK and see the difference.

Yeah John.... i saw the auction.  i was just making a comment about it.

i think it's been some time now.  this one is so clean.  but from the pics... it looks to be somewhat faded when you look at the receiver caps.
maybe its the lighting.

Didn't know if you saw that or not and also posted the link for anyone who didn't see the contest - they can see the guesses placed by other members.

And you are right, I haven't seen a dark grey in that condition in some time. That's why I bid high. About a half hour to go so we're at snipe time. Should be interesting to see what happens at the end with the phone having 44 watchers.

LoveOldPhones

YES!  its always exciting to watch the end... won't be long now !  lol

When I see this I always wonder if the seller knew he had a rare piece or if he is shocked at the price.

Me to wife: "Look! That grey 500 brought $589.00!"

Wife: Wow!..."Sell yours!" *pointing to my Aqua Blue 500*

Me: "That's not grey"

Wife: "Oh"

I should learn to just keep my mouth shut.

That no snipe ending happens when a phone is bid up (26 bids) over the contest and reaches a price no one wants to pay more for so no snipes. Not always that way but over 90% of the time these high activity auctions do not receive a snipe. The buyer really wanted this phone placing half of the 26 bids.

It has been some time now, but they do come along now and then. I keep bookmarks on 500 set auctions and annotate them so I know the color and the date it ended and sometimes the date it was made, if that's in the auction. So I can answer your question several times over. Here's what I found. Not all are solid dark gray phones. Some are two-tones and one is a 1954 model with a black dial, which is correct for 1954. Prices are about the same as the one that sold today on several of them.

dark gray 1-57 500, possible crack, ended 9-7-13, $698.89.

I see John... I didn't know that... but i was thinking that those 2 guys were SOOOO CLOSE that the second guy was gonna challenge the winner at least ONE more time.  but.... he didn't.   I actually think the winner may have been prepared to go alot higher.... but he didn't have to.

was it ANYONE here who won that phone ?
