Hi Folks - this is, of course off-topic, but I am very proud to be a Canadian today after hearing ISS Commander Chris Hadfield's music video of Bowie's Space Oddity today. What a remarkable man. Chris will be returning to earth today, but has done an incredible amount of promotion of science and music while on the mission. Chris had logged 166 days in space in several missions.

The video was recorded aboard the International Space Station, and produced on earth by the Canadian Space Agency, Production by Chris's son Even Hadfield, edited by Andrew Tilby, produced and mixed by Joe Corcoran, piano arrangement by Emm Gryner.  Bowie states that is is the best cover of any of his songs. Ever! It doesn't matter what country you are from - this song will bring tears to just about anyone and a pride of mankind that we seldom have any more.

Dave,

Thanks for posting this link! I saw a snippet about it on GMA this AM, as I was ambling about, getting ready for work. Glad to see the whole thing. I've listened to / watched it a half-dozen times since I got off work, and sent the link to many more geeks like myself. ;)

Best regards!

The Commander will be returning to Earth tonight - the de-orbit burn will occur in a few minutes (8:37 pm Central Time), after which time the Soyez capsule will land in Kazackstan....

Sure is! By the way, I captured the on the ground photo from Nasa TV last night as they did the preliminary medical checks on the astronauts. Typically lousy Russian video, but nice to see him safely back on the ground!

As if this morning, 8 am, his video has 6 million hits! Talk about Viral!

11 Million hits on Wednesday am!

Shows the lengths they will go to in order to make us think the moon landings and entire space program are real! (No, that isn't what I really think!)

I saw the footage and originally thought it was Jack Nicholson from"The Last Detail" meets "2001 - a space odyssey"
"now this should take five minutes, where's me screwdriver went now..?"

And now that it is over.....back to reality!

(I can't help wonder if this is a joke someone put together)

It is a funny joke.  With the space station orbiting 200+ miles up,  the cell towers cannot reach that high.

Rogers was recently in trouble for charging someone $20K in roaming data when the phone owners son decided to watch movies on it while the family was on vacation. I always tend to look at this sort of thing from both sides as obviously the charges were a part of the phone contract that the owner ignored or he wasn't supervising the use of his cell phone.

Rogers dropped the charges to something like $1k to $2k but the owner continued to complain pointing out that Rogers competitor TELUS has a system of capping sudden out of control usage at $200 and turning off access until the phone owner calls in about it.  I figure if you use a competitors service to complain against your provider maybe you should complain to yourself for not doing your homework!
