Vintage and Rare Skater's Dead Flame Lantern

Missed this one, it sold in June, but couldn't afford the selling price anyway. Started at $10, ended at $298 7 days later.

I've seen turn of the century themed Christmas Cards with skaters holding one of these. First time I've seen a real one.

Note the parts screws together onto the globe with the cage in the middle. I can see why not many of these survived in that a broken globe virtually destroyed the lantern. I doubt replacement globes these days are available anywhere.

Wow that's a really cool piece! I can mentally picture the images with the skaters, never thought that those lamps were a real thing though. Would almost be tempted to say that these could have inspired the Comet in some way. Filling the role of small, lightweight, handy, and very portable lanterns/lamps. The mini mag-lites of their time.
