Gunshot method to open payphone

Looks like someone used a gun to open this payphone vault.

Which begs the question...what does the back of the phone look like?

Looks to me like they used a dull drill bit or were running it backwards!  I've seen a couple like that in person.

Good reason why taking it to a locksmith to get it professionally drilled would be better, cheaper and less dangerous.

All this damage was not nessasary go in by removing the screws in the back.at the most this would sacrifice the wooden backboard and the coin box. Sometimes the upper housing will pop
open with the use of 2 screwdrivers under the lock.Hate to  see the locks destroyed ,they are
expensive and can be modified for new keys or a screwdriver

I agree, through the back is better. And if no coin box is present, no damage at all.

And drilling is better than this payphone still for sale on eBay, again (third relist)
