This is an amazing find! It is being offered by a long time ATCA member and I believe he knows what he is talking about. A BAKELITE 302!! I have never seen anything like this! AMAZING!! probably be a good auction contest. I do not think I am "outing" an auction here as this should sell for more than I make in a year ;D

WOW!!! This is just an amazing find! I have heard about these but never seen one. This looks like a trial set with all the D numbers. The vermilion on the back is smudged, would have love to known what it said.

John...this is a great name that price contestant!!! ....Doug

David S rarely loses and auction. This will go sky high!! Jim is a super guy, this must be a tough phone to sell for him. It would have a seamless E1 and sit proudly in my collection. I haven't been so excited about a phone that is not mine in a long, long time. What a great piece of history....Doug

the field trial label appears to be intact but painted over. That ringer appears to be a replacement. It should have the same serial number as the other parts.Set is most likely early to  mid 1936 vintage based on the higher serial number than my metal field trial set .My set had a handset that resembles an F1 .Paul Vaverchak .mentioned a bakelite set to me before so there might be others.Photos of my set to compare it to or on the forum somewhere

Yeah pretty safe that you won't have to actually pay for it if you get your bid in early!

Look how thick that bakelite is compared to the thermoplastic and even the pot metal versions. Not very common to have a wiring diagram inside he base of a WECo phone is it? Like AE's.

Doug, I saw that phone and the price run up, and then the reserve, so didn't start a contest. After reading what you and others wrote, the "conditional" contest (wow, 2 in a row is a long way from never on reserve auctions) is up as #106.

Contempra, please resubmit your guess on the contest board at the link above, thanks.

Thanks John...if I remeber correctly the base is bakelite as well  on these beauties. I agree with Robbie, the ringer should be from 1936 and a D number as well. Still, I would not complain to open a box with this sitting inside. Waht a phone!....Doug

Thanks John . . .   Doug

Since the auction link is reference above in this topic, I think it would be great for any and all discussions of this phone to posted in this topic, rather than within the contest topic, and I'll put a link to this topic in the contest work up.

No thanks teleplay ..It was just a comment because it is far too much money for me, and then I only buy phones that come from either the Canada or the USA... Sorry if I have caused a mystery. ;)

Our Auction Contests are just us having fun guessing what it will sell for at the end of the auction...you don't have to pay for it!

Go to the Auction Contest and just take a wild guess at what you think it will sell for and see how close you can get!
