I recently saw a Card Dialer ad--Bell gave you a set of cards, which you filled out using a pencil. There are a set of blank dots on one side of the card, and single numbers on the other. You filled in the dots that corresponded to the correct digit, and the phone read the sum of those dots as a phone number.
