Northern Electric NU Handset Date

I got this really nice NE NU handset on a beat up, cracked WE 302. It was spattered/covered in paint. It cleaned up really well. I was surprise to find dates of 9/8/37 on the receiver and 7/37 on the transmitter. Is an NU that old? It does have the indentations on the bottom grip that an early WE 36 seemless handset set does. Any ideas?...thanks...Doug
