Title: Telephone ID please - 1970's
Post by: docubyte on December 07, 2017, 04:33:31 PM
From the picture here;

Strikes me as a modified blanked Western Electric type - but my knowledge is poor.

The image is from a fascinating article about the nuclear false alarm of 1979 , here https://nsarchive2.gwu.edu/nukevault/ebb371

Many thanks in advance!

James

It is a 500 model that has been converted to an intercom. Lots of companies used existing phones to create intercoms. I have a few in my collection, WE 300 & 500 models, and Conn Telephone & Electric come to mind. It is not possible to tell if this is a WE phone from the 1 picture but I would hazard a guess that is most probably is.
Interesting article.
