AE80 will not ring

Good suggestion Harry. I thought of mentioning that as well. Of course this would be done by removing the leads from the circuit board but you don't need to remove the ringer from the phone.

Thanks guys but I have no good news I set up the circuit that Harry suggested and it did not ring.
I think we should put this one to bed I am pretty sure I will pick one up at a garage sale.
Also I have the ne 500 I bought yesterday and it works perfect.

All is not lost yet! All we have determined is the issue is in the ringer circuit not the phone. I would suggest a close inspection of the ringer windings. The wire is very fine on them and it may be just a simple easy to repair broken wire. Also test your capacitor to be sure it is OK.

Did your test cord end up like this? There is a black wire connecting the two coils together on the back side of the ringer also. Hope this helps. stub
