It looks like this one is all original, even the cords! This would make a great auction contest!

(For some reason, it won't let me copy and paste the Auctiva pictures)

Wow, mine is only a five months later than that one, but it doesn't have the same dial bezel.  I wonder what I could get for it.

Well, at least you have a 1950 500! The earliest 500 I have is from 11/51... :'(

I don't blame you, Jorge.

One always wonders what's going on when there's a lot of early bidding and we see:

Ok, from now on, I'm going to be taking a much closer look when I see "just another black 500" on Craigslist!  (Or ebay, but CL is my primary hunting ground).
The idea that a four-year degree is the only path to worthwhile knowledge is insane.

I read on Paul F.'s site that production during the first year was supposed to be 180,000.  I wonder how many, or how long that dial bezel was in production.  They seem very rare.

The number plates with operator in a semi-circle seem to have been manufacture discontinued by 10/50:

Dang! My 11/50 500 set was off by a month! Although, it still has the smaller typing.

Almost there. My 10/50 set does not have the curly operator also. I bet sep-oct was when the last of the curly operator faceplates were used up.

Dennis Markham

Thanks for the laugh, Jorge.  I'm with you on this one.....OUT!

I have only seen one other early black 500 with the curved "operator" on ebay.  That was six or eight years ago I believe.  Unfortunately I didn't win it.  Maybe one of these days............

I just started a one (1) day poll at the top of this topic to see if the members want this to be an auction contest, or not.

http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=13029.0

It was a 7 day auction, one day is gone, one day for the poll so if "yes" wins, there will still be 5 days left with 4 days for guessing.

It's currently sitting at $1,195.00 with 9 bids from 5 unknown bidders.

What say you, fellow members?
