5J Dial - Early Fingerwheel

Here's a photo of the fingerwheel from an early 5J dial -- found on several sets dated 1941 and 1942.

Note the X-shaped mounting brackets -- different than the ones that have a lever that hangs under the fingerwheel shown in most BSPs.

The number card holder is rigid plastic, and is removed using a tool to pry it out.  The tool is inserted in a small slot in the rim at the bottom of the cardholder.

The card holders must be brittle, as they are usually missing -- probably broken over the years.
