Hey,

A few days I  received a phone from a fellow collector whose thinning out his collection. Has has sent me some really cool phones and I had a question about this one. I think its a Kellogg RedBar phone, its not in prefect shape as it has a crack but that's not the problem.

So, whats all the hubba about these red bars? Are they worth a lot or just....

I'd be interested to know,
Ben

Those bakelite shells on the Red Bar are very fragile, so it's hard to find one not broken or cracked - like this one.  I have picked up several broken sets, but complete otherwise for about $10-15 each plus shipping.  If the bakelite is in good shape, they can go for $50 easy.

So they are not really worth that much, is what your saying?

Then whats all the hubba about them?

Ben;
Those phones are very well made. However I feel over engineered. Maybe not so much over engineered as ahead of their time. the module construction is a nice feature.

rdelius.......are these painted sets ? i've seen a painted green and a white [unpainted] bakelite one.

If that's the one that was on Ebay a few months ago, it is not painted.

The maroon,blue and green sets were not painted but the bakelite-type plastic turned brown where light hit it .inside the color was normal . These are darker colors than you get with Tenite.Never seen the white one except in photos.It might have been a more stable plastic.Kellogg made the thinnest shells for there sets i doubt they would survive many drops.

- yes that white redbar was on ebay several months ago, and yes not painted ....... excellent clean white bakelite.

rdelius-
thanks. i didn't know that there were coloured, unpainted redbars, other than white.
i'd be v interested to see pictures of good examples of these.........anyone know of a source for that ?
i must dip into mike neale's kellogg pages some more ......perhaps they are mentioned somewhere there.
