"mark as read" for individual topics?

I don't suppose there's a way to have a "mark as read" for individual threads?  It would be nice not to have threads I either don't have anything to contribute to, or it's not something that's of interest to me, stop coming up in the "unread since last visit" or "all unread topics".

As it is now, when it gets to several pages of unread topics, I review the subject lines to see if there's anything I want to follow or contribute to.  If not, then I nuke it.
