Auction 246: WE 1959 Pink 500 P/U Mushroom - Ended 12-21-16

New forum members are very welcome and encouraged to take a guess. After all, there are no wrong guesses, just one lucky one. No one knows the winning bid on any auction until it ends. However, it is important to get your guess in before someone else grabs your guess.

Just listed in a 7 day auction with no reserve starting at $9.99 is an interesting fungus phone. It seems to be a run of the mill WE 11/59 Pink 500 P/U "Mushroom" phone with original handset and line cords. The seller provided a good set of internal images showing the condition to be good except for the typically rusted base (around the foot pads) and the broken soft center finger wheel. Within the first hour of being listed, the phone attracted 1 buyer placing 1 bid so the phone will sell. There is an upside so, again, who best knows what this item will sell for when the auction ends? I do know it will be less than $645, the BIN price of a similar phone now on eBay, again, but I could be wrong.

The seller listed it as an "Vtg PiNK BELL SYSTEM MUSHROOM LiGHTED TELEPHONE WESTERN ELECTRiC 1959 ORiGiNAL" with the item condition as "Used" and " - - - " and with the auction listing description saying "HERE iS A ViNTAGE TELEPHONE -- BELL SYSTEM / WESTERN ELECTRiC -- 1959 PiNK MUSHROOM LiGHTED -- P/U 500 -- ....a "P/U" designates the presence of a control switch for the light. The switch, located just outside the number 7, can be adjusted so that the light stays on dimly when not in use, serving as a night-light. (Rather like the Princess phone that would appear years later) Without the switch, the light comes on only when the handset is picked up, and those models would be a "U"....." -- THE CURLY WiRE THAT CONNECTS THE HANDSET iS A BiT FADED, KiNDA PiNKY TO A LiGHT TANNiSH -- THE NUMBERED DiAL iS A BiT FADED AS WELL -- THE CENTER NUMBER HOLDER LOOKS CHiPPED AT #4 -- LiGHT SHELF & STORAGE WEAR -- NOT BAD -- SOME RUST AREAS ABOUT THE FEET"
