I know its not pewter, but it sure looks like it. I have had this for a while.  Its an understated shiny, but not like your normal stripped metal phone. Its smooth and the color is consistant, deep, like a shiny pewter. Next to a chrome phone, it really looks like pewter. Someone professionally painted the handset and the plungers deep blue,  the color of the blue thermoplastic. With the great #5 brass dial and curly cloth cord, its a very cool looking phone. This is one of my favorites....Doug

Was the metal case sealed with clear or similar?

Doesn't feel like it was sealed. ....Doug

Maybe it was blasted with shot, it sure is pretty.  A very nice looking 302.

Doug;
Is it heavy or a little on the lighter side. It's aluminum isn't it.

Dan....It is not light, its as heavy as my other metal 302s which I always assumed was a zinc alloy. I have never heard of metal 302s being made in aluminum, but you could be right. Its a keeper.....Doug
