Reminds me, I am looking for a source for an old key for the single slot Western Electric locks. One I had picked open but damaged in the process I want to restore but do not have a key to work with. Some of the plates in the lock got bent as i worked the lock with my homemade picking tool. Could stick a regular lock cylinder there but the Western style is so unique and a challenge to open!

vault locks there are no keys.  each one was unique, and only two keys for those were ever made.

upper locks, if you can see inside to see the code number on the lok. otherwise, you take a gamble that the instructions cards and or phone number on it ppoint to the correct operating company.

but, one guy retired, and i dont know if the remaining guy can cut keys from a code. he ususally wants you to send his lock to him.

you can try www.payphonelockrepair.com. i guess hes gone, as i just tried, and the website is gone

Yes, according to what I heard he has taken a vacation compliments of the government! From what was discussed on the lists there is nobody doing payphone keys at the moment.

Abloys you can drill. Just drill enough into the face so you can remove each tumbler disk. Once all out, you can turn the bolt. A nice step drill works here.

Medeco. Ive seen videos on youtube where it is possible to pick a Medeco lock.

That is correct, on both accounts.

There are still references to the payphone lock/key business on the forum but all links are now dead since the sites have expired.
