This years phone finds have got off to a nice start for me. :)
A tie between an AE A-1 and this Siemens 312, this Siemens was the first to arrive so here it is. :D
What I like about this Siemens model is their sharp contour. These are getting harder to find in good condition, many have breaks to the sides. This one in need of a little attention, but you guys know by now how much I enjoy restoring Bakelite. This one has it's original cords, and it's original early black fingerwheel #10 dial. Price £60. I've seen them fetch more in much worse condition.

NB:
After starting this thread I can now see there is much to discuss about some of your great finds. So maybe in your reply it might be a good idea to add a link to a new thread about your phone, similar to how you would post in 'Find of the Month'. That way anyone seeing the phone here can reply by clicking on the link and discussing there.
I suggest this just to keep this thread tidy for anyone viewing in the months/years to come; so the viewer can see each new purchase easily - and of course to make to life easier for the mods, so nothing has to be separated out...
Thanks guys.
:) :) :)
I picked up these NE 554's Jan.03/19 for $10.00 each. Black one is a 1959 soft plastic and the Red one is a 1973. I fixed up the black one, changed out the dial and handset with cord. Just have to buff the soft plastic body. I'll do that this spring when the weather is better and I can open the garage doors. Not sure when I will get around to working on the red one.
This is my first phone of the year an all metal Kellogg Red Bar. I am still in the dog house for this purchase. I have become a Phone junke

That phone looks really nice, but don't drop it on your foot. The metal 1000s are quite heavy.

Here's mine.... although Fedex has decided to let the POST OFFICE deliver the package! (What??)
I was browsing, looking for another 20 button phone when I happened across this one. put in the bid for $40 and won it. not many people buying these. saw a ITT 20 button for $5.00 and told the seller to hold it for me, lost the link and never saw the phone relisted. at $5.00, its a goner! anyway, here is my first 2833. interesting phone... anxious to open it up and take a peek inside... BTW, since the phone number is still attached, does anyone recognize it?
First purchase of a telephone bought on Dec. 29 received Jan 9th a Stromberg Carlson white 1543. First telephone accessory purchased in a lot with 3 ringers a WE 759A Home Interphone speaker box dated 8-61. I have tried to buy a WE 759 for years but got out bid every time. This time I bid early and forgot to rebid and was surprised that no one else bid on it.

I've just got this AE80 which I've posted more details about here - http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=21715.0

I found this WE key set telephone this past weekend at an indoor flea market in Bourne, MA.
It is marked E4 on the back and has a 4H dial. Somewhere along the way it was gutted
and converted to a single line telephone with 302 components stuffed inside. I do not
know if this conversion was bell system approved or not. Here are a few photos of my find.

Gary Millam
It may of been converted for war shortage, or the Telephone Pioneers, or an individual.
That isn't an easy phone to find.
You should post it in the Find of the Month
Jim
Yes, I have heard they were converted during the war. I have found several of them that were converted the same way. I have one now that I am cleaning up.
Gary Z
That is very cool! My guess from looking at the way it was done is that is was done by the Bell System. Becuase of the neat way the wiring is done, the way the components are installed and the gasket. Definetly not home made.
My first of the year was this beautiful Siemens 366. A full discussion of the phone can be found at: http://www.classicrotaryphones.com/forum/index.php?topic=21714.0
My first find this year is this damaged and still a nice looking Kellogg "RED" red bar desk set.

I was excited about my first purchase of 2019, as I found a Telstar Design Line phone in what looked to be good condition! I got it on ShopGoodwill for $28.
Sadly, it suffered in transit. :'(

Here's a pic of what it looked like before FedEx and Goodwill collectively destroyed it

Gary...this was a 205 or a 208 that was upgraded by WE during the War to a single line set. I have seen pictures of them, but never actually seen one in person. Really nice find my friend.
If you ever get tired of it, you know I would trade handsomely for it. Tis a beauty....Doug
My first phone of 2019, thanks to forum member Robert_m.
This WE 653. It talks and dials but doesn't ring yet, we'll see if I can come up with the time for cleaning and troubleshooting this weekend.
Transmitter was shot, but I had a replacement. Receiver was gone but I had a shattered G1 handset and I'll be darned ir that G1 receiver didn't fit like a glove!
Pics are not very good, I'll post more after cleaning.
I found a salesman sample case of 5 princess phones. Not the best condition, but an interesting display for only $50.

Aww, poor Telstar :'(
Did they just shove it in an empty box with no packaging? At least the cord retractor end looks to be in good shape

It was upright and it was surrounded by this odd packing material, kinda like a corrugated box. IMHO, it was too rigid. I wish it was in packing peanuts or even just shredded paper. The cord is in good shape, but I think the touchtone keypad is dead. When I dial, the line get a little quiet, but I don't hear the number dialed.

Telstars are harder to work with, IMHO - between broken feet (can easily break), the retractable cord, the brien plexiglass covers, and the unusualness of the design, I've gotten 2 (almost) working out of 4 sets. Of the 4, I believe I have 3 different handset variations (including 1 non-modular, hard-wired retractable cable)

Very Cool set! Nice find at a good price. Congrats!
First arrival of 2019 is this Western Electric 500DM, originally dated 1955 but rebuilt in 1977. It came to me with one of those white stickers on the dial for visually impared users. Luckily it came off quite easy and a bit of Brasso soon polished up the original markings.
One problem I have is that it's been converted to modular and the grey socket inserts are broken. Does anyone know where I can get them? Bear in mind I'm in the UK. I found one source online that looked correct. A packet of the parts was $8 but the postage was $30!!!! So I'll pass on those. The phone itself only cost £5.99 plus £4 postage.
My first phone 2016 was this Hagenuk W49, I should not have bought it , but the curiosity about the convertible phone made me do it. $23.5 picked up on my way to the shopping center. I did put on a new handset cord, printed out a dial center, and did put in a better carbon transmitter capsule. The bakelite has a damage due to to hard tightning of a screw, but it is not visible here. (before and after)

WOW. Cleaned up great!
That is a beautiful phone! Great job, dsk!

My first purchase of 2019 turned out to be a bit of a dud.
I took a shot at a listing for an older new Cortelco phone. I'd asked the seller if it was rotary as the only part visible was the handset and they said they'd thought it was. So I took a shot and made an offer that they accepted, the box looked right for the time of the final run.
Whelp, got it today and sure enough its a 2500 and not a 500. Still probably going to keep it, at $35 the difference from Amazon listings is the cost of shipping. It's definately NOS, only oddities are the cords are kinked a bit from being boxed so long, and the ringer adjustment isn't very precise. Most of the range makes only a ticking sound, with a quick transition to a weak ring, to full volume.
On the plus I dated the box correctly as the sticker indicates it was made in Jan of 2003, so it's from when they still made rotary 500's just got the wrong dial ;)
My first phone purchase of 2019. The Northern Telcom airplane phone.
I like the Alexander Graham Plane phones. I have the orange one on my bookcase, and a friend who's a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, saw it and loved it. I bought one before a Christmas and had a cafe-au-lait Rendezvous that wasn't working, so I swapped the transmitter & receiver between the two handsets (my Rendezvous used an electret mike), and gave him the phone in the original livery colors for Southwest- he was very happy and put it up by his Southwest Teddy Bears.
Jim
Those Telstar phones have a heavy base likely to keep them from flipping over when opening the lid. I can see one smashing the cover in transit quite easily. I have one that I keep thinking of selling. It has a handset cord problem, someone (previous owner) performed surgery where it enters the handset but if I remember correctly it still isn't working. Lid is good except it seems like it has sprung apart a bit.... stretched wider slightly so it doesn't smoothly stay on the pins it rotates on. Always figured I would have to heat it and try to very slightly move each edge inwards a tiny bit. I would consider selling it as is or parting it out if a couple of people could make use of some if the parts.

My first purchase of the year was at the Maitland Florida show on Saturday. It is a 3 hour drive for me from Coral Springs. I learned in past years that getting there early is the only way to get some good stuff, arriving late is a waste of time. I got up at 3 AM to get there as it was starting. I picked up some payphone locks & a vault door for my projects which was the main reason I wanted to go. I also picked up a cheap metal 302 and a scissors candlestick which I have been wanting for my collection. All in all a good day. I was there for less than 3 hours, talked to a few guys I have not seen in a while and headed back home.

Thanks. I have not even really looked at it yet. I will check it out, get some more pictures and post it soon.
I have been trying to get all the North Electric Colors. I still need Red and Blue. Good luck with that!
I saw this on eBay $40 and $13.75 shipping. Great? Right!.... paint is just amazing. It is almost perfect, a few chips on the handset you can't see when it's displayed.
So what's the problem? It's a MAROON SET. I already have a Maroon, so I am going to have it be red....for awhile..
Even when its good.....nothing is easy :-\ ...Doug

If it helps Doug, I looks red to me. What makes it maroon?
Scott K.
Scott...if you look at the last picture, the bottom is maroon, The painted phone was not black but a desirable maroon color...Doug
I got a Red (New-Old-Stock) Trimline Rotary phone! (For $9!)
I also got a Black ITT 2500 for $1!

If ya got any extra money to share.... ;D
My first (and so far only) purchase of 2019 is a 30AM "Private Line Apparatus" box for a ComKey 416 system, that looks to be in NOS condition (clean as a whistle inside and out and no evidence that the punch down block has been punched down at all. Paid $30.00+$13.00 shipping.
(Bonus that the cover has the classic 50s/60s logo, even though the insides are from 82...)
With this and the 2x6x50 66 Punchdown Block to punch my cables into, i should have a nice 5 line Comkey 416 system. The challenge will be to fingers out how to run lines from the basement to upstairs (which may have to wait until I redo my kitchen... as that's when the walls will come down...)

I traded a typewriter for a (piece of a) WE wood pone while back. It is mostly gutted but makes a attractive display (pic). I want to run across a perfect donar phone to make it a working modern functioning phone. With this as a back drop I now give you my first phone buy of 2019!
I walked by this 2500 marked AT&T100 on the panel. My first thought was I could use this as a donar phone for that WE wood piece. Upon inspection I see several markdowns along with a space wide 20% off...I bought it for $5.60 plus tax.
It works beautifully, the most modern phone so far. But it's engineered structure doesn't lend it's self to transfer and re use. I'll clean it up and offer it refuge among it's fore barriers for now.
Purchased for $5.60 my first phone of 2019:
My first phone of the year is a AE 34A3A "Easy Lift" version - it was pricey, but I was glad to get it as they don't show up often.
