The eBay auction said "Candlestick Rotary Telephone yellow Very rare made in Poland EUC" and it's the first time I've seen this style. Looks newer, 80s maybe, but was wondering if anyone could name this pop up dial cover phone and add a bit about it for posterity.

The auction has ended and it didn't sell at the starting bid of $43.99 plus $11.25 shipping from Ohio.

Sone polish sets were exported to the us around the time of the break up of Bell .This is an export set because of the dial. Just numbers in Poland.most likely made by R W T Telcom

Does the act of opening / closing the dial cover serve as the hookswitch? I am not discerning another possibility, from the posted pictures.

Certainly, an interesting, innovative, and intriguing design.

Only 4 pictures in the eBay listing but his one does show a hook switch "plunger" on the upper left side along the edge.

I saw a similar dial (especially the fingerstop) with numbers only and an identicle shell color on a "500 style" phone shown here on the forum a few years ago. It was said to be from Latvia.

Found it, Latvian VEF TAp telephone from straight from Latvia at

and made/refurbed in 1995.

These are copies of German dials. I am surprised that set did not sell

Thanks for the detail pic; it operates like I had surmised. I still say, very cool phone! Does it come in black, without the bling? Some of us are more modest... :D

The 2nd phone pictured is very cool as well; prior to this posting, I had never seen either one before. It is always good to learn new things! ;)

Best regards!

A brand new member to the forum, RTT from Belgium, posted pictures of his collection and one of them is another of these. Looks very similar. Maybe he knows about the pop-top candlestick. Will PM him with this link.

Well, when it rains, it pours, sometimes . . .

This tricked out "Vintage Rare 1978 Barbie Telkom Phone plugs into wall outlet.Rings&Works.Rotary" was just listed on eBay 7 day auction for $24.99 with a BIN of $99.99, plus $12.35 in shipping.

Similar dial to the first pop-top candlestick posted above. Still waiting for someone to name the maker and country of origin for these.

I sent a message to the seller of the Barbie phone asking for a better picture of the label. He put one up today. Here it is.

And, yes, made in Poland in 1978. Wonder if there was a legal Disney Mattel contract in place?

Ooops! Having done Beauty and the Beast recently, I had Disney hacks on my mind, and all they do to control their products. Yes, Mattel owns Barbie and while their hacks are less harsh, I still wonder if that was a licensed phone.

Both auctions have ended. The "Barbie" phone sold for $25.49 plus $12.35 shipping with 2 bids.

The other phone, the one at the top of this thread, did not sell.
